The game allows you to choose from three levels of difficulty or set the depth of the computer's moves. Further you can choose the type of play (time limit moves, time limit games, or match opponents time). Play is against the computer or another human, with board reverse and a demo mode available. Computer can move first or player can move first. You can use drag-and-drop or point-and-click mouse movement of the chess pieces. A running dialog of both players' moves is displayed, and bestline moves are constantly updated on screen. The included help file includes instructions and visual illustrations on how to play chess, so anyone can learn the game. WinChess is a free to try software.
